Our History

    1952

    Mission Takes Root

    Local families establish the organization that will become Arc Human Services, setting a mission to respect, support and empower people with disabilities.

    June 30, 2019

    Community-Based Model Achieved

    Arc closes its Training Center and becomes a fully community-based service provider.

    Brody Building Purchased

    Arc purchases the former Brody’s Furniture building at 111 West Pike Street, planning it as a future headquarters and community hub.

    First Lifesharing Home

    The first Lifesharing home opens in Uniontown, offering a family-style living option for two women supported by Arc.

    November 30, 2020

    Headquarters Phase 1

    Staff move into the renovated top floor of the Brody Building, marking the first phase of Arc’s downtown headquarters.

    July 5, 2021

    Camp Laugh-A-Lot Returns

    Camp Laugh-A-Lot resumes at Vernon C. Neal Sportsplex, giving 50 campers six weeks of post-pandemic fun and social skill-building.

    Ribbon-Cut on Community Hub

    Community leaders cut the ribbon on the fully renovated Brody Building, now home to Arc offices, Chicco Baccello café and a public art gallery.

    Workforce Grant Secured

    Pennsylvania DCED awards Arc a $199,840 grant to train adults with ID/DD for manufacturing careers alongside local industry partners.

    Manufacturing Careers Milestone

    Arc completes its two-year manufacturing-workforce initiative, connecting 25 job seekers to paid positions with regional employers.

    Smart Living Home Opens

    Arc opens the Smart Living Home in Peters Township, a tech-equipped demonstration house where visitors can test assistive devices in real life.
