Our Response to COVID-19
As an essential provider, Arc Human Services continues to support all of the individuals whom we serve in our residential program throughout southwestern PA. All of our homes are open and staff are working in around-the-clock shifts to continue to provide the support and care that our individuals need. The dedication of our staff and their willingness to go above and beyond for those in our care has been tremendous. We have encouraged residential staff to (safely!) continue taking the people we serve for walks, visiting parks (while keeping distance from other visitors), going for drives, picking up take out food, and visiting with friends and family using video chat platforms.
Because all of the day programs for our individuals have been closed due to state mandates, we must provide additional staffing at our residences during daytime hours to maintain a safe environment. While it has been a challenge, our direct support staff have really stepped up and are doing everything they can to help out. We are also reaching out to other day service providers that have temporarily laid off staff to offer them positions to assist us during this difficult time.
We are continuing in-home services to families who need and want the service. If we cannot visit the family in person, we are using video chat platforms to talk with the family, play on-line games, and help gather supplies that the family needs.
Our administrative staff are working remotely with minimal on-site staffing and only to perform functions that are absolutely necessarily. In addition, they are helping to fill a variety of roles like gathering necessary supplies (masks, gloves, bacterial soap, wipes etc.), delivering meals and groceries, sewing masks, playing online games, visiting virtual libraries with individuals, and helping our residents with video platforms to visit with their friends remotely. All of these activities lessen the burden of our direct support staff as they help those in our care navigate these very unusual circumstances.
We want to express our sincere gratitude to those in the community who have reached out to make sure we have what we need. We deeply appreciate the love and understanding of the families whose usual visits with their family members in our care have had to be interrupted or modified to maintain a safe environment. And we extend to you and yours best wishes for health and wellness as we all work together by staying apart.
