The Arc Washington County
The Arc of Washington County, an affiliated chapter of The Arc of the United States and The Arc of Pennsylvania, was established by a group of parents who wanted to create a better future for their children, each diagnosed with a developmental or intellectual disability. We are committed to providing support, guidance and assistance to individuals and their families to receive the level of services needed. Throughout the year, we help a number of individuals with disabilities and their families by providing resources, information and support in navigating the system to ensure they are receiving their needed services. |
MISSION:
To support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities so they may live, work, and participate to their fullest potential in the least restrictive community environment.
OUR GOALS are SIMPLE:
provide Advocacy, Assurance, Assistance and Accessibility to ensure active involvement for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The Arc of Washington County is comprised of two programs; Advocacy and Self-Advocacy.
Our Advocacy program strives to connect families, build natural supports, and advocate with families in regards to all services across the lifespan for their loved one.
Our Self-Advocacy program encourages and empowers individuals with disabilities to use their voice and speak up for what they want. Self-Advocates learn various skills during monthly meetings, meet with local legislators to discuss issues of concern, educate the community about their rights and responsibilities and provide support to their peers to assist them in using their voice and promoting the message that “We Belong” in the community, no matter what their ability is.
